She is My Sister

December 13, 2009

I want to know everything about her.

We only just connected over Facebook, after all these years.  The last time I saw her, I held her on my lap.  I was about 19.  She was no bigger than Thomas is now, maybe 4 or 5 years old.  She had the brightest brown eyes and the biggest little-kid smile.  I couldn’t help but love her.

She is my sister.

Karen and Kaylee

I didn’t grow up with her.  In fact, I didn’t meet her until I was about 16.  She was a bouncing baby girl, full of sweetness and lovely little coos.

Kaylee and Karen

We share a not-father.  Kaylee’s mom is a beautiful soul that I always adored as a teenager.  She hasn’t changed from what I know.  When I first met her, she sat me down and gave me two of her prized possessions as sort of a welcoming into her life.  Her life with my father. She is a gentle woman, though she has this inner strength that became more apparent after I met her.  She is from Trinidad, has a soft voice but a loud laugh.  Her cooking is indescribable, yet I can still taste her spicy chicken if I shut my eyes.

Karen, Kaylee, Leela

History repeated itself in that my father left Kaylee and her Mom when Kay was little.  He took off, hid well and avoided work to avoid paying support and ended up being a not-father to her too.

Neither one of us have any sort of feelings for our Dad.  It’s sad more than anything.  It makes me sad that he doesn’t know us, doesn’t know my kids, won’t ever be a part of our lives because he chose not to be.

Kaylee is an amazing young woman.

I wish I could tell you more, but I’m still learning about her.

She is my sister.

How exciting for you! I reunited with my little sister a few years ago via the internet. I was the oldest and given up for adoption and they went on to have three other children they raised themselves. Let’s just say I got the better end of that deal. Having a sister is so great though, enjoy each other.

My mom has a not-father, too. My dad’s father, my Popi, more than makes up for his suckiness.

I’m glad you were able to reconnect with her. There are too many lost siblings in this world, and I truly believe that our siblings are our best friends. I wish you both the best of luck.

I’m so happy for you to be able to re-connect with her. I have an older half sister that I didn’t find out about until later on in life. We reconnected a few years back and then when my Dad passed away I really saw what a greedy, awful person she can be. I haven’t talked to her since. Sad.

That said, I do have two other very amazing sisters that I love to pieces.

Sibling can be wonderful. I’m happy for you!

You know, I *did* read this a while back and then I didn’t comment. Maybe, for the obvious reasons, I was still dealing with my own reuniting with my daughter. But reading now, a while later, I have to say that I can fully see where it comes from and there’s no pain in reading it. Only happiness.

    Will you tell us more?

    xoxo
