Run Fat Girl, Run!
July 20, 2009
I’m stepping out of my comfort zone BIG TIME here.
I run. I am a runner. When I’m in the groove, I happily run almost daily, live for the high, ice my knees and take too much ibuprofen.
Since the kids got out of school though, I haven’t run. It’s been 4 weeks since I did. My muffintop floweth over. Ah well.
The anxiety over running in the BlogHer 5K on Friday morning is really getting to me. I’m not concerned about finishing, just worried about being so out of touch with running, I’ll fall on mah face, figuratively speaking.
So tonight I thought of something that might drive me to do this, and do it well.
See when I go to the gym, often times I will wear my Maddie shirt from when Ali, Sam and I went down to Casey’s to March for Maddie.

We think about Maddie a lot in this house. My kids know who she is, who her Mama and Daddy are, and Thomas is especially fond of her smiling face on my shirt. The shirt that is well worn, well loved. She lives on in the hearts of a few Canadians that never had the chance of meeting her.
So Maddie is going to run with me on Friday. As a Friend of Maddie, I wanted to remember her this weekend as I travel to see some of the women that walked for her a few months ago. I will proudly wear that shirt and honor Maddie once again in the early sunshine of Chicago on Friday morning.
I will think of that smiling face and hope I’ve raised more money in Maddie’s name. Can you help me? I wonder how many Support Packs I can jiggle run for. They are $25 and help families who have babies in the NICU. Once upon a time, Daren and I had a baby in the NICU.
Want to donate to Friends of Maddie, if for no other reason than to see me make a fool of myself?
I will huff and puff, and chant to myself “Run Fat Girl, Run!”
{I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly, Chicago.}
Just do it.

I’ll be thinking of you while I am nice and warm in my bed still.
Actually scratch that. I will NOT be thinking of you in my bed. That’s just weird.
