Uphill Battle

June 2, 2009

It’s 10 to 9 and the gym daycare opens at 9. I have a 3 hour window in which I could go run 5K this morning but I’m feeling VERY discouraged and crappy after stepping on the scale this morning and seeing a 2lb gain. I worked out for an HOUR yesterday morning, then cleaned/reorganized the boys’ rooms for FOUR HOURS.

You would think after all that activity I would see a drop, even just stay the same since I didn’t drink enough water yesterday. But no, my body decided to GAIN 2 FRACKING POUNDS.

I swear some days it’s just an uphill battle and I wish someone would tell me why I should even bother going to the gym this morning because my mojo is lost today and I need a good kick in the ass.

I’m going to get dressed – maybe my mojo is in my sports bra.

I swear, every time I think I’m going to get on the scale and see some solid results, I GAIN WEIGHT. I think we both need to throw out our scales. seriously. what you are doing? amazing. working out, watching what you eat, moving your body…there’s nothing better you can do for yourself.

You can do this, Karen. If ANYONE can do this, it’s you.

Think about where you were two years ago. Would you have even BELIEVED you could be this far now?

    You. Can. Do This.

    Yay, you did it!

As for the weight gain, you said it yourself: you didn’t drink enough water yesterday. If you don’t drink enough, your body retains water, making you weigh more. It wasn’t a real weight gain – it was water weight only. Drink your water and you’ll see a loss again very soon!

Ick – I hate when that happens. It always happens when you expect to lose. Then you eat pizza and lose 2 pounds. WTF?? It’s true. All you can do is keep plugging away and hope that it’ll pay off over time. And it will. It’s simple math. Burn more calories than you consumer – you HAVE to lose. But it doesn’t happen overnight.

People always tell me that “muscle weighs more than fat” thing – but it never makes me feel any better. There was a time in my life where I had muscles AND I weighed 110 pounds – so I know it’s possible to see the scale drop even if I gain muscle.

Hang in there and just keep going. You’re not alone.

I’m pretty sure your mojo is what’s INSIDE OF your sports bra, hubba hubba.

And also? You can do this because you are fierce and awesome.

Mine apparently washed away with the rain in March. I wonder if anyone down stream has found it? I’d love to have it back.

Hey, maybe it was muscle weight gain from all that working out. Or not. Stay with the plan and I’ll pay off in the long run, I’m sure. Or, you’ll just get old and fat. Whatever. Sigh.
